Sabrina finally sat and nearly groaned when her ass hit the chair. “Damn, my feet are killing me.”

Laura looked up from her menu. “I thought being a vampire such things would no longer be an issue.”

“Pffft, please. Did you forget my sire did a half-ass job?” Sabrina picked up her own menu and began perusing. What to have? Her stomach rumbled and baby girl began punching her like a prize fighter, causing her to grunt and double over.

“Baby acting up again?”

Sabrina laughed. “Always. It’s a good thing I am a vampire, otherwise I would weigh more than an elephant. The cravings are out of this universe.”

“Well then, we best get you both fed. Plus, I am starving.”

“Sorry again for being late. Hazel was a hotter mess than usual.”

“Don’t worry about it.” They both handed their menus to the waitress when she arrived and gave their orders. Once she was out of earshot, Sabrina could wait no longer.

“So, you and Jonas. You still getting assaulted by his deadly weapon?” She snickered.

“Ha, ha!” Laura got a lost, dreamy look in her eyes and sighed. “He is the best ever.”

“Enjoying his beef injection, then?” Sabrina snorted and slapped the table. “I am full of them.”

Laura rolled her eyes. “You have issues.”

“Yes, I do. I have not had any meat candy since yesterday morning. I am having withdrawals.”

“I can’t imagine what it’s like being mated to a vampire. I mean, Jonas and I are having a great time together, but I’m sure it can’t compare to what you and Christoph have.”

“It is a special bond. Nothing like I have ever experienced before, but we are not talking about me and my sex life. Do you care for Jonas, or is this just a fuck fling?”

“I find myself thinking about him a lot. Not just sex. He is the kindest man I have ever met. He constantly puts my needs before his own and I gotta admit, I love the intimacy of feeding him.”

“Sounds like things are going well, then.” The waitress dropped off their appetizer of mini crab cakes and Sabrina didn’t hesitate to pile several on her plate, then drizzle garlic-chive sauce over the top. Thank goodness vampires were not really allergic to garlic. Just the opposite for her. She could drink this shit.

“Things are okay, I guess.”

She looked up from her food. “Okay? That doesn’t sound good and Jonas is tight-lipped when I ask him anything.”

Laura played with her crab cake. “I sometimes feel like he’s not totally there. Does that make sense?”

“No, so you best start splaining.”

Her friend let out a long sigh. “While he is kind and so very generous, there are times when it feels like he’s somewhere else.” She chewed her lip. “I’m falling hard for him, Bri, and he’s pulling away.”

Well, hell’s bells. This was so not good. She loved Laura like a sister, but Jonas was Christoph’s best friend so it wasn’t like she could get too involved. Guilt started pacing and wringing her hands and if that wasn’t enough, Panic decided to join in.
